Mariposa Celebrates National Health Center Week 2016 & the 25th Anniversary of Platicamos Salud!
Mariposa Community Health Center celebrated the 25th anniversary of its “Platicamos Salud” Community Health Services program on Thursday evening, August 11th with special guest, remembrances and treats.
The program was founded in 1991 by the MCHC in order to provide an array of different health programs for the community. The outreach effort targeting under-served populations is based on a “promotora” model in which community health workers help clients one-on-one.
The event in Nogales also served as a 36th anniversary for MCHC and a celebration of National Health Center Week.
Bob Brubaker, a representative of the office of Senator Jeff Flake, read a letter from Flake recognizing Mariposa for its service and contributions to Santa Cruz County.
Jim Welden, founding CEO of Mariposa, spoke of how Community Health Services was an innovation response when millions of people were left out of the community health center system.
