Winners of MCHC’s 2013 health care scholarships
Oksana Arvizu and Elise Muñoz, graduates of Nogales High School, are the winners of the 2013 Mariposa Community Health Center scholarships. The two students were selected by the MCHC Board of Directors from numerous Santa Cruz County applicants. Both Students will receive a total of $5,000 toward their study.
Elise Muñoz, daughter of Marco and Kerri Muñoz has been accepted to the University of Arizona. Elise has been active in numerous extra-curricular activities including, National Honor Society and Z Club. In 2012, she completed the Keep Engaging Youth in Science Internship working in the lab at the U of A College of Pharmacy. She has also been very involved in volunteer work, completing over 350 hours of community service. Elise has a passion for medicine and her ultimate goal is to become a doctor. She plans to major in biochemistry.
Oksana Arvizu, daughter of Juan and Dora Arvizu, has also been accepted to the University of Arizona. Oksana has been active in numerous school activities, serving as Vice President of the Science National Honor Society and South Eastern Health Education Area Center.Her interest in medicine grew when she was one of 50 students selected to participate in the 2012 U of A summer Med-Start Program. Oksana plans to study pre-med and physiology and would ultimately like to become a pediatrician.
Mariposa congratulates both of these exemplary graduates as they embark on their studies toward careers in the health care profession. MCHC initiated this annually awarded health care scholarship in 1992 to assist recipients pursuing a career in health care.
